WILL THEIR CLOTHES GET STAINED? Maybe. We can't guarantee clothing will not get stained and so it is best students don't wear their favorite outfit or new shoes to class. Many students have designated "painting clothes" they wear to class. You'll usually see Ms.Jeri in a paint shirt because it's no fun worrying about getting your clothes dirty while in the throes of creating great art!
LET'S TALK SNACKS, CAN WE BRING THEM? YES! We encourage students to bring bottled water to class in non spill containers. We also understand that sometimes an artist just needs a break and an allergy friendly snack is much appreciated. We do not have a designated snack time but trust our students to make decisions right for them when it comes to taking a moment for a bite to eat or drink.
HOW DO I TALK TO MY CHILD ABOUT THEIR ART? Asking the right questions is the name of the game. Over the years we have learned to never assume anything we see on paper, that great cat might just turn out to be an elephant and no one's got time for that kind of awkward moment. "Tell me about your work?" or if you're wondering what on earth is happening at the bottom of the picture, "Wow, that's interesting. What's happening here?" are great questions to ask when your child shows you their masterpiece. Also a great confidence builder is asking your child what they like best about their picture. It may surprise you to hear the answer too. And if they absolutely hate their work? That's OK. Part of trying new things is learning what you like and don't like, congratulate them on being open-minded and giving it a try.
IF WE SIGN UP FOR MULTIPLE SESSIONS, WILL PROJECTS BE DIFFERENT? YES! We pride ourselves on keeping photographic records of every artwork created in the studio so that no student repeats the same project twice. Although Monet did paint the exact same landscape dozens of times at different times of the day just to study light, so maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world if it ever happened.
HOW SICK IS TOO SICK? You probably already know the answer to this question. We sit side by side sharing everything from pencils to paintbrushes, so in consideration of others, please do not send your child to the studio when they are feeling ill. Also if your child is too sick for school, they are too sick for art class later in the day. No matter the miraculous recovery when they realize they are going to miss out on the fun. We reserve the right to send home any child who in our opinion is ill or risks the health or well-being of other children. Not to mention the health of Ms. Jeri, who is the one man band of this shindig and when she goes down, everything shuts down with her.
DO YOU OFFER X, Y, or Z? Well we most certainly will try! If there is something you have brewing in that head of yours, let's talk. We would love to make it a reality.
WHAT HAPPENS TO ARTWORK IF I'VE LEFT IT BEHIND? We will hold artwork for one month after the end of class. Unless you have made special arrangements, it will be repurposed into new materials for art making at that time.
THE NITTY GRITTY, AKA policies.
CLASS MINIMUM ENROLLMENTS In the case that the class does not meet the minimum enrollment numbers, we reserve the right to cancel and give full refunds. We do our best to give notice a week or more before class starts.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP For all classes, on-time drop off is ten minutes before and ten minutes after the class begins. All early students may find a seat and draw until class begins. All late students are responsible for catching up on what they missed. Students are to be picked up promptly at the time class finishes. Parents and guardians MUST pick up students in the studio. We do not allow students, even the most responsible, to leave the building without setting eyes on an adult responsible for their care.
