In this five class series, young artists will create works of art using a variety of games surrealist played to tap the creative potential of the unconscious mind. We'll explore automatic drawing with watercolours, cubomania to create a self portrait, decalcomania using black gouache and paint, grattage with frottage to make an imaginary landscape and an all time studio favourite- exquisite corpse to create hybrid creatures.

  • watercolour paper
  • aluminum foil, wax paper, plastic or glass from old picture frame
  • sharpie pen
  • watercolours
  • photocopy print of photograph of self
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • ruler
  • pencil/eraser
  • black gouache
  • acrylic paint (primary colours, white and black)
  • container for water
  • paint brushes (variety of sizes)
  • found objects to scrape into paint
  • sketching paper
  • pencil crayons or markers
