stitch a memory. mondays, january 11th - March 1st. 7pm
This is an eight-week virtual course where artists will create a simple drawing and learn how to use thread to add colour. Artists will learn simple stitches to create interest and texture in their work including french knots, satin stitch, back stitch, chain stitch and stab stitch. We will start with eight squares to fill with memories important to each artist. We are currently living in a historical moment that generations to come will learn about. Maybe you want to create a memory block of your personal experiences living through a pandemic? Maybe your family has grown with marriages and babies you want to remember. The stitched memory shown was created while selling a family house and contains memory highlights from over the ten years it was home. The first week we will block out our squares, brainstorm an idea and start our first memory. The following classes, artist will create a new block to add to their work and learn stitches to place on the fabric. When finished it can be framed, made into a pillow or added to another textile project. What is for sure is that it will be a treasured family heirloom capturing moments, stories and love.
